We’re going to focus on expanding suburban areas – Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory

.

Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has pledged that the FCT Administration will give satellite towns the attention they deserve in terms of development.

Wike revealed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of Mandate Secretaries for the FCT Administration.

To assure the happiness and success of all citizens, he continued, development and progress must be brought to every corner of the FCT, not only the city center.

.

Mr. Bitrus Garki, of the Area Council Services Secretariat, Mr. Lawan Geidam, of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, and Mr. Danlami Ihayyo, of the Education Secretariat, have all been sworn in as Secretaries of their respective Mandates.

Secretaries Adedolapo Fasawe (Health and Environment Services), Salman Dako (Legal Services), and Chinedum Elechi (Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership) round up the group.

Mr. Uboku Nyah was also sworn in as the Transportation Secretariat’s new Secretary.

Wike urged them to fix the procurement procedure and other problems that have been plaguing the FCT Administration’s ability to provide its services.

.

He argued that the principles of openness, effectiveness, and responsibility should be institutionalized across the government.

“As appointed secretaries, your part in this change is crucial. You guys aren’t only our advisors; you’re also our leaders and policy implementers.

“You have a duty to translate our vision into real actions that will impact the future of the FCT.

.

“Our President has given us the herculean task of transforming the FCT into a first-rate metropolis.

If we want to improve our city and the lives of its citizens, we need to focus on a few specific areas.

He highlighted that one aspect of the purpose is to increase IGR by finding new and creative ways to bring in money to fund the development agenda.

He claims this is essential for funding large-scale endeavors.

As the minister pointed out, there is a systemic problem with public transit that needs fixing.

A dependable and extensive public transportation infrastructure is essential to the successful operation of any contemporary metropolis, in his opinion.
