The VC of UI warns freshmen, “You have no excuse not to read, make good grades.”

.

Professor Kayode Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has stated that incoming freshmen have no excuse to not study hard and perform well academically.

On Tuesday, at the matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted pupils, Adebowale revealed this information.

According to the HEALTHYSPOT101, 3,792 freshmen and sophomores across all departments were given the all-clear to participate in the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony.

.

Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, the school’s Registrar, administered the matriculation oath to the new pupils.

The Vice Chancellor, through the mouth of Professor Aderonke Mojisola Baiyeroju, the institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, emphasized that while the university is a place of freedom, that freedom is subject to regulations.

He urged them to be responsible with their newfound independence while at school.

Adebowale, while commenting further, emphasized that the university is a haven of independence, where nobody wakes students up in the morning to attend lessons.

.

He added that there are policies in place to regulate interactions between students at the University.

He pushed them to learn the rules and do everything they could to always play by them and avoid trouble with the authorities.

You can’t use it as an excuse to avoid reading and succeed in school. Like I said before, there is freedom at university, but it is freedom within established norms. In the academic setting, interactions are governed by a set of norms.

.

Find out what the rules are, and do everything in your power to always play by them and stay on the right side of the law.

“For those who will run foul of the law, the Students Disciplinary Committee is the organ of the university through which they will be proceeded and sanctioned if found guilty of any misconduct.”
