The case of the Plateau governor: “Respect the people’s mandate” Group implores Supreme Court to

.

A coalition of young people from all seventeen LGAs in Plateau State has petitioned the courts to overturn the decision of the Court of Appeal that removed Governor Caleb Mutfwang from office. The group is known as the Plateau Support Network (PSN).

As part of their Jos solidarity walk, the group called on the judiciary to acknowledge Mutfwang’s mandate from the Plateau State people.

According to HEALTHYSPOT101, the Court of Appeal overturned the victories of Governor Mutfwang and all other state and national assembly candidates in the general elections held on February 25 and March 18, 2023, last month.

.

Since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacked a local chapter in the state, the court ruled that the nominations were invalid.

Critiques have been raised in response to the ruling.

“Wild celebrations across the state, which lasted for days on end” were the reaction to Mutfwang’s electoral triumph, according to PSN spokeswoman Sokshak Shikse.

He asserts that Governor Caleb Mutfwang, aware of his people’s hopes, desires, and ambitions, and driven by the mandate bestowed upon him, dove headfirst into the difficult task of government.

.

“Among other developmental strides, as well as security, roads and amenities, and human capital development, his administration made tangible progress within months after his inauguration.”

According to the PSN spokesperson, Muftwang has quickly shown the people of Plateau how to be an exceptional leader—something that the state has lacked for a long time.

In his statement, he emphasized the reasons why the Plateau Support Network (PSN) and other concerned citizens of the state have come together for this solidarity walk. He emphasized that they fully support His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and his administration, ‘The Time is Now,’ and that there are many more reasons for their support.

.

“We humbly request that the courts acknowledge and honor the people’s mandate to this administration and rigorously follow the provisions of the constitution concerning the procedure of its decisions at the petitions tribunal,” Shikse continued.

“With God’s help, we have faith in the sacred chambers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s judiciary and believe that her esteemed justices will hear and judge the election petition case with moderation and an unfaltering commitment to justice.”
