Tensions rise in Kano as police issue additional warnings following a Supreme Court ruling

.

The Nigeria Police Force, Kano Command, has reiterated its commitment to preventing any disturbances or planned protests that could disrupt the current level of tranquility in the lead-up to the Supreme Court’s decision on the governorship election in Kano level.

In a statement made by Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel, the two main political factions in Nigeria—the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP)—rejected a ceasefire agreement.

Residents of Kano are reportedly on edge as they await the Supreme Court’s decision on the contentious governor’s race, according to HEALTHYSPOT101

To ensure that anyone, under any pretense, who violated the signed peace pact would undoubtedly have himself to blame, the Commissioner intimated that the State Joint Security Committee was established.

The chief of police vented his frustration, saying that some anonymous groups were determined to cause mayhem and uncertainty in the old city despite the peace accord.

“No one, regardless of their social status, will be able to divide and terrorize the peace-loving people of Kano,” he declared.

When asked who was to blame for the events after the first and second peace treaty signings in the state, Hashimu Dungurawa, chairman of the NNPP, and Shehu Maigari, state deputy chairman of the APC, disagreed.

.

State Chairman of the NNPP Hashimu Dungurawa has accused members of the APC of encouraging violence, but he and the governor of the state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, have been cooperating with the security forces to maintain calm.

Nevertheless, Shehu Maigari, the APC Deputy Chairman, asserted that his party had no cause for concern, saying that everyone knew who was responsible for the deaths and violent protests in the state.
