Politics in Zamfara, and a prominent Islamic preacher steps down

.

The Chief Imam, the revered Sheikh Sani Mohammed Jangebe, has stepped down.

He mentioned this in a letter issued to the mosque’s management committee and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, on Friday.

In addition, he promised to do what he could to help the mosque and Islam grow in New Jersey and the rest of the country.

Jangebe told reporters that the video tape in which he was seen praying for former governor of Zamfara State and Minister of State for Defense Bello Matawalle was a factor in his decision to leave.

When he was running for governor, he said he prayed in the same way as Dauda Lawal.

He claimed the video clip had gone viral online and received a range of responses from the state’s religious and political establishments.

You may remember that Jangebe spent three terms as Zamfara State’s Commissioner for Religious Affairs.
