NCWS urges the Nigerian government to invest in policies and methods to eliminate gender-based violence

.

Hajia Lami Adamu Lau, president of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), has urged the Nigerian government to fund initiatives that will stop violence against women.

Saturday in Abuja, at a commemoration of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, she made the request.

By investing in things like education, awareness campaigns, community engagement, and the establishment of support systems, Lau said, we can build an atmosphere that promotes equality and reduce the likelihood of violence.

.

To paraphrase her, “The theme of this year’s event, which is “Unite! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls,” serves as a call to the federal government, private stakeholders, and community leaders to prioritize the allocation of resources and be intentional about creating gender-friendly budgets towards funding transformational interventions that address gender-based violence.”

The President also demanded the nomination of more women in leadership and decision-making positions in an effort to close the gender gap in the nation’s economic and political spheres.

She went on to say that a lot can be done to stop violence against women by reviewing the gender laws at the National Assembly, allocating additional funds to support the execution of the VAPP law, revising the National Gender Policy, and providing women with a plan for gaining economic independence.
