Kano government: anonymous group accused by police of plotting violence following appeals court ruling

.

The Kano State Police Command has found some organizations conspiring to unleash violence on the state following the appeal court verdict that granted the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna victory over Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The command announced the capture of seven individuals who would be formally charged.

It assured the public that it is in control of the situation despite the presence of anonymous groups claiming to be merchants in various parts of the State, including in several local government regions.

.

Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel told reporters that information gathered through surveillance indicates that the so-called traders are appealing to religious sentiment in order to justify their activities.

“Some patriotic Nigerians, came to us from Bebeji, Wudil, and some other areas, reporting that there are some people hiding under the guise of reading the Quran in the names of prayers, and already we have sent our men and dispersed them,” he stated.

He was concerned the organizations were trying to incite violence against the police by spreading rumors that the officers had harassed women before they dispersed.

In order to achieve their malicious goals, “these nameless groups are planning to send negative messages via the social media and traditional media against the Police,” he said.
